Buy a grow tent that’s too big and you could end up paying more than you need for heating, lighting and other hydroponic equipment.
Based on a rough estimate of 120cm² of space per plant (using a 15 litre or 30 litre grow bag), the following guidelines show how many plants you could grow.
How much grow tent space do I need per plant?
Medium Rectangular Base Grow Tents – 120 x 120 x 200cms (W x D x H): Slightly taller, this grow tent size has plenty of room for four mature plants or 16 smaller ones.
What size grow tent for 4 plants?
Carefully consider the watering process and make a list of all the equipment you’ll need for refilling reservoirs (if growing in hydroponics) or for run-off, if growing in soil.
Grow tents create the ideal hydroponic environment for growing, drying and curing herbs, flowers or indoor plants. Designed to ensure the nutrition from your grow lights doesn’t go to waste; grow tents also keep pests out, minimise odours and help to optimise yields.
We also offer a wide range from big-name grow tent brands including BloomRoom, Secret Jardin and many more – perfect for carbon filters and intake-outtake fans. Whether you want a complete grow tents kit or to build your own, creating a small space will usually make it cheaper to light, cool and heat.
At THC, we stock a wide range of indoor growing tents (of various shapes and proportions), from grow tents 3x3x2 in size to smaller propagation tents and grow tents for lofts.

The tent you buy should be thick; the thicker the material, the more durable the tent will be. Tents are rated with numbers that range from 210D to 1680D.
The Apollo grow tent we reviewed measures 60″ x 60″ x 80″ (5 ft x 5 ft x 6.7 ft). From our calculations, it can accommodate up to 25 plants, although the size of your plant may influence that number. To make sure your plant grows properly, Apollo offers this grow tent as a kit. In essence, you’ll be getting a good grow tent kit for a ridiculously affordable price.
Weight Limit of the Tent
Most of the tents we reviewed have a 600D thickness rating.
If you’re not getting at least one year from your tent, you’re definitely missing out. If possible, look out for grow tent companies that have more than one year warranty on their products. VIVOSUN, for instance, has at up to 2 years warranty on some selected tents.
Ducts, Flood Tray, and Tool Pockets & Net Trellis
In turn, this helps you to keep the tent clean and reduce the chances of bugs living alongside your plants. Having your tools kept at arm’s length is definitely a nice feature, but it’s not a must-have. If you intend to use a growing method that requires a canopy with consistent height, the net trellis will definitely make a huge difference.
