As you are most likely realizing, there are a ton of decisions to make. If it’s your first time growing and you want to grow in a tent, we recommend looking into a complete grow tent kit. Complete sets come with a higher price tag but better chances of getting the best grow. You can always upgrade specific pieces once you get the hang of it, and know what is worth spending the most money on.

The next decision is how you will ventilate the tent and keep the smells contained. The ventilation system will depend on the size of your grow tent and the ventilation already in your home. It is best if you can set up your tent near a window, so you can have exhaust pipes run out the window. If not, you can always have the air get pushed back inside your home. This is why a carbon filter is very important, as we presume you don’t want your backyard or home to have a strong cannabis odour.

You will want to shop around and find a fan that isn’t too loud to keep running in your home. While you could use a cheap basic fan from the thrift store, theres a good chance it will be much noisier than a higher quality fan.

once you have decided between soil or hydro, theres even more decisions to make. What kind of soil are you going to use? Do you want to use peat moss, perlite, vermiculite, coco coir? What other growing medias do you want to include? You could also go the route of buying pre- mixed soil. To help answer these questions, here is a blog all about different growing medias you could use.

What other equipment will I need?

Growing cannabis indoors can be a frustrating and difficult process. But if you’re an avid cannabis consumer then you’ve probably realized that growing your own bud can save you a lot of money and you can enjoy higher quality flower. It is also more rewarding to grow your own!

If you have decided hydroponics is for you, which method are you going to use? Theres several different hydroponic methods people use for growing cannabis. One of the most common is Deep Water Culture (DWC) but theres also aquaponics, aeroponics, ebb and flow and many others. Read up on each one, and make a decision on which is best for you.

However, most grow tents are are sold as just the tent. You need to add lights, fans, pots, etc. This is helpful if you want to customize your grow area, but can also take a lot of research. You can buy full grow tent kits online that provide everything you need to get started. They may end up costing more than finding each piece individually, but it saves a ton of time on research.

How to set up a grow tent

Setting up your grow tent involves quite a few steps and a bit of elbow grease, not unlike a piece of Ikea furniture. Make sure you choose a location close to a power source and out of any rooms you don’t want to smell like cannabis. First you’ll assemble the posts into a rectangular skeleton, then pull the tent covering over and around the frame. We highly suggest having two people to assemble the tent because of the size and how easily you can pop out a piece of the frame on certain tents, causing you to start over. Once the outer tent is assembled then it’s time to install your lights and set up the reservoirs and tables to hold your plants. Once you have your tent set up and the lights turned on you can begin your grow!

Grow tents come in many sizes from a mini grow tent, to a small 2×2 grow tent up to a larger 10 foot by 10 foot version. Many of the tents are designed to be large enough that people to get inside and walk around. For those with a lot of space in their homes there is the potential to grow quite a few plants at once in these systems.
