Ice® recorded the highest levels of THC at the 1998 High Times Cannabis Cup (published in Weed World magazine). Multiple back-crossing (squaring and cubing) has resulted in specific desired traits being stabilised and at one point even some Blueberry genetics were added and subsequently stabilised. This plant withstands high temperatures well and is primarily intended to be an indoor strain although it is worth pointing out that it will flourish in a Mediterranean-type climate outdoors.

Ice® is derived from crossing Skunk Special with White Widow. Out of 500 female plants one plants was selected for its ability to express both sides equally. It has the ginormous buds of Skunk Special together with the resin production and sheer power of White Widow.

With a two week vegetative period before being put into flowering plants will grow to about 60 – 80 cm. tall. The flowering period will endure for approximately 60 days giving a total growing time of about 75 days with outdoor harvests being ready in mid-October for northern Europe. Yields are very high and the buds have a very strong diesel-fuel smell and taste which comes across as being rather medicinal in nature. The effect hits hard and fast with a true indica body-stone that will get growers very relaxed indeed.

Ice seeds

Culture: Prefers cool temperatures; direct seed as early as possible in spring. Optimum germination temp 40–55°. Bolts in heat; avoid the heat and grow as a fall crop, or make succession plantings every 1-2 weeks. Use row covers to discourage flea beetles. Let part of a spring crop go to seed and get a self-sown September and October patch that is delicious and has no flea beetle damage! A prime ingredient in tangy mesclun mixes. Frequent watering will reduce its pungency. Suitable for microgreens.

  • Days to maturity are from emergence after direct seeding.
  • All greens are open-pollinated except where noted.

Greens

About 11,700-15,000 seeds/oz. 1 ⁄16 oz packet sows 60 ft; 1 oz sows 960 ft. Also known as Roquette or Rocket. Musky green and its piquant blossoms will spice up your salad.

Germination Testing

Saving Seed: Saving arugula seed is easy! Let your spring sowing of arugula bolt. The flowers develop into narrow seed pods. Once pods dry on the stems, they can be easily broken open for seed.

Green Ice Lettuce Seeds (Aimers International) 2830. Variety originated in USA. Visually appealing crisp, dark glossy green savoyed leaves up to 25 cm (10”) high. Slow to bolt to seed in summer heat. Loose head variety with the crunchiness of a crisphead lettuce. Mouth-watering in salads! Matures in 45 days.

Sow seeds in a sunny site in successive crops every 2 weeks from April to August as long as both the soil and weather are cool. Seed typically germinates in 7-10 days.

How to Grow

Planting Depth: 3 m (1/8”). Seed Spacing: 12.5 mm (1/2”). Thin To: 25 cm (10”). Row Width: 45 cm (18”).

COMMENTS: Work in lots of compost as lettuce does best in an organic, well draining fertile soil. Harvest by pulling entire plant or by cutting leaves at least 2.5 cm (1”) above the base to encourage new leaf growth. A great kitchen container garden plant.
