Hope this is of benefit to anyone wishing to buy this product.

This is a good product, but a good couple of things to know before you buy are:

2: The body has to be pushed and snapped into the base holder, the small plastic lugs on the bottom of the base lock the body to the base.

Top critical review

1: The feeding slots are very small indeed, even small birds struggled to feed from it. This can be remedied by simply enlarging the holes with a soldering gun or similair instrument as the heat melts the plastic and does not crack it. I made the holes around 1cm in circumference which is plenty. I then filed the excess burned plastic from the holes inside and out and finally washed it. Took 10 mins. Easy peasy.

I bought this to try to resolve the problem niger seed wastage and the associated plague of niger seedling. In that respect it works well. spilt seeds gather in the tray and are eaten by the birds as they feed. The tray can be removed for cleaning – I found it a little difficult to reattach and worry that the plastic lugs that hold it in place may snap.

The pre-made holes in the base are simply to release the body from it, so to seperate the two parts just turn the body until the small plastic lugs line up with the holes and that will allow you to unlock the two sections.
